The 2D Speakeasy in Finnieston, Glasgow

Recently I completed a marathon of drawing for Derby Lane in Finnieston, Glasgow. It wasn’t just murals, but I had the task of recreating an entire bar, from the walls, to the furniture, to the bar, bottles and plants - in 2D. Confused? check out this 2D Cafe in Florida to get the idea. You can find out more from this article in Glasgow Live

The whole bar was created to give the effect of a comic book in 2D, and had to be firstly painted white, then everything redrawn in Posca marker pens, and acrylic paint and brush. The effect was like walking into a 2D cartoon / comic world as you enter from one of two entrances.

The theme the bar owner had visualised for this was a 1930s Speakeasy bar, from the prohibition era in the United States. Therefore New York imagery and decor was drawn into the bar giving it a feel of a bar in the times of mobsters and bootlegged booze.
